She began to educate herself by purchasing a scientific glass blowing kit from a catalog. " That was certainly the hard way" she acknowledges. "Teachers were just not available or willing to take a beginner. It's very difficult to learn on your own." From books and observation of items in gift stores and much trial and error, she made her first saleable piece- a hummingbird. From that beginning, she participated in craft shows and spent several years running her own kiosk at the local mall. " I really feel I'm just getting started with exploring the world of glass art. I just had a chance to try furnace glassblowing and I have begun experimenting with kiln fused sheet glass as well as making beads. Glass is intriguing and beautiful. I am grateful to have the opportunity to make gifts that others can give with aloha to remember Hawaii." |
